Fleming’s work is an explosion of a swirling fantasy world of technicolour stills. The world of the grainy black and white screen has dissolved yet remains softly hinting and teasing beneath the glassy glossy surface- old glamour movie stars and cartoon characters co-exist indelibly in bold black ink.

The artist playfully tantalises with his candy drops and ice cream dribbles but do not be fooled into pre-judging this as saccharine sweetness. Tongue-in-cheek and with wry sarcasm, FROLIC is loosely based on an old movie script from the 1950s and the comic books, from which the cartoons were lifted, are from 1964 - the year he was born. The result is work that is engaging and full of suggested dialogue.

Whilst the artist intends his latest series to be light hearted in spirit with all their plastic fantastic colour and energy, there is no running way from the underlying tone of gravity beneath. He leads the viewer to self-analyse personal ideals and integrity.

The artist’s fascination with light and colour can be seen with his use of translucent colours on a translucent ground of plexiglass. Shifting shapes and chameleon colours abound as the painting has various degrees of opacity allowing light to travel through paint. The colours wielded echo of 1950's fashion and the collage aspect of his work pay homage to the glitz and glamour, trashiness and tackiness, cut and paste of Hollywood.
