CHRONICLE OF LINES: Solo Exhibition by Khairul Izham
TAKSU KL, 26 April – 17 May 2012
TAKSU Kuala Lumpur presents Chronicle of Lines, the very first solo exhibition by Malaysian young artist Khairul Izham. Drawing inspiration from lines that grow organically to form complex composition of images, Khairul Izham starts his process with laying one singular, spontaneous line, and let his intuition to guide him in taking the next steps. As a study of abstraction and figuration, conscious and subconscious, intentional and accidental; Chronicle of Lines sees an exercise of artmaking that essentially begins with a pressing urge to create, and leaves any expectation of what narrative the outcome might carry to the very process of getting there. What matters to include? What should be left out and concealed? Some of these questions may or may not have a definite answer as what is visible is the trace of a journey; but the point of interaction between the work and the audience will mark a point of departure for the works, when they finally get to whisper stories neatly interlocked with one another, formulating a bigger picture in the mind of the beholder.
KHAIRUL IZHAM (b. 1985, Maran, Pahang, Malaysia) approaches broad subject of past and memories with complex layering and conscious masking, leaving the audience with residue from the process of recollection. Khairul Izham graduated with B.A. of Fine Arts (Painting) from Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM) Shah Alam, Selangor, Malaysia. Some of his recent shows include: Malaysian Emerging Artist Award (2011), Deceitful Truths (2011), Dis-chromatic (2010). Khairul Izham lives and works in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
