DUA: Two-man show by Sabri Idrus and Tony Twigg
TAKSU KL, 29 November – 31 December 2012
TAKSU Kuala Lumpur invites you and friends to Dua, a two-man exhibition by Sabri Idrus and Tony Twigg on 29 November, Thursday, followed by an artist conversation on 1 December, Saturday.
Meeting at TAKSU Kuala Lumpur a long lunch turned into a profound discussion between artists Sabri Idrus and Tony Twigg. It was mid 2010 and it was a conversation around the kitchen table about abstraction and the shared belief in an inherent spirit within the object. That chat between Sabri and Tony has been rekindled through this exhibition Dua. It proposes a lived abstraction that sits outside the categorisation of boundaries or nation-based curating and occupies a shared ground of materiality and making.
Tony will be showing work that stretches back to his residency at Rimbun Dahan in 2004, a couple of pieces reworked and presented alongside works from his most recent Moon Bathing series. Sabri will be showing a suite of circular pieces made from found timbers during a residency in Bandung Indonesia, 2010. Coincidently, Sabri will be in residence at Rimbun Dahan next year.
Key to Dua is their conversation about abstraction presented as both as a published text and as an event chaired by Gina Fairley. Join us ‘round the kitchen table’ on Saturday, 1 December at 3pm in a candid discussion on abstraction in Asia, Islam and beyond.
Opening reception: Thursday, 29 November 2012, 7.30-10.30pm.
RSVP at firstname.lastname@example.org by 28 November.
