GURIS: Solo Exhibition by Fauzulyusri
TAKSU Kuala Lumpur, 7 July – 31 September 2011

TAKSU Kuala Lumpur is pleased to announce Guris, a solo exhibition by local artist Fauzulyusri. Guris, Fauzulyusri’s new suite of paintings and lino-prints, follows his long preoccupation with mark making and the way a line can imbue character or spirit in a painting. Largely an exhibition of portraits – an artist, a couple, a friend and fellow artists – Fauzul moves us beyond traditional understandings of ‘portraiture’ to embrace the surface that surrounds the sitter. Here he embeds details within the painting’s surface – a little like a tattoo scratched into the skin – where its design, colour and lines increasingly become the subject. It is an exciting take on contemporary identity and the role of painting today.

FAUZULYUSRI (b. 1974, Kedah) As a full time artist, has participated in various group exhibitions in institutions and galleries throughout Malaysia, Singapore, Dubai and Hong Kong. Among his past solo exhibitions are: “Ground” (2007), “Play” (2009) and “Raw” (2009). Fauzulyusri received his BA of Fine Arts from UiTM, Shah Alam, Malaysia in 1999. Fauzulyusri currently lives and works in Shah Alam, Selangor. Click here for more information.
