AGNES LAU – b. 1990, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia

Lau Pik Yoke (Agnes) was born in 1990 in Kuala Lumpur. Having grown up in the busy city, her love in looking forward to nature and peace of mind grew tremendously. She has always been fascinated by how the art-making processes help her in silencing the chaotic state of mind and this is what lead her to create pieces with repetitive/meditative actions. After completing her studies, Agnes delved into her art practice which involved the search of harmony in everyday life. The ordinary yet ignored objects or activities from daily life plays a role in her study and she tries to stimulate a reflection through art-making processes. Her work lies between systematic and non-systematic processes within a determined time and space. Incorporating both the conscious and unconscious mind, she allows various forms to take place in her work, juggling between drawing, painting and printmaking on different materials.
